Dr. Lissa Calhoun, DVM

Dr. Calhoun has always known she wanted to be a vet. She worked in all areas of a clinic as a support staff before and while attending the University of Illinois where she earned both a BS and Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine. She met her husband John while in vet school. After graduation she worked briefly in Kentucky and southern Illinois before moving to central Illinois to work in a small animal practice that was started by her veterinarian father-in-law. Over the course of the next 25 years, Lissa and John expanded one practice into three and Lissa developed her love of medicine and surgery. She particularly enjoys the challenge of a difficult medical case, performing diagnostic ultrasounds and surgery.

Lissa and John have 3 adult children, 2 long-haired German Shepherds, an orange tabby cat, 3 horses and a very old pony. In her spare time, she enjoys anything involving nature and the outdoors – hiking, horse riding, skiing, camping, ect.

She is excited to be a part of the Eureka community and get to know the families and pets that make this community so great.
